Pianist Hyunjung Lee began her piano studies at the age of six and quickly

distinguished herself in various competitions in Korea. She earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees in Piano Performance from Sookmyung Women’s University in Seoul. Furthering her education, she obtained a second master's degree in Piano Performance from Boston University in Massachusetts. With a full academic scholarship, she pursued a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree in Piano Performance and Literature at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she studied under the guidance of Maestro Ian Hobson. During her doctoral

studies, she held an accompanying assistantship, collaborating with musicians across all major instruments.

Hyunjung’s career in the United States has been marked by an expanding focus on the performance of works by female composers, both through solo recitals and collaborations with chamber orchestras. In Korea, she performed numerous solo recitals and appeared as a soloist with the Ukrainian Symphony Orchestra. A highlight of her career was a notable series of four consecutive solo recitals in 2016, during which she performed the complete collection of Mozart’s piano sonatas, demonstrating both her performance skills and commitment to music research.

In addition to her performance career, Hyunjung has an extensive teaching background. In Korea, she taught piano majors at Sookmyung Women’s University, covering Piano Performance, Music History, and Piano Literature. She has also served as a visiting professor at the same institution, teaching dissertation classes for graduate and doctoral students. Additionally, Hyunjung worked as an affiliated professor at Myungji University’s Institute for Continuing Education.

In addition to her academic teaching roles, Hyunjung Lee has worked extensively with individual students, ranging from young beginners to advanced pianists. She has successfully prepared many for entrance exams to art schools, middle schools, high schools, and universities. Her students have consistently achieved outstanding results in competitions. Furthermore, Hyunjung has served on numerous competition judging panels and has been involved in various entrance exam evaluations, offering her expertise in shaping the next generation of musicians.

Dr. Hyunjung is experienced in teaching students from beginners to advance levels. She believes in making the learning experience fun while building strong foundations to make music a lifelong enjoyment for students.
